Book EINE STADT WIRD BUNT. Hamburg Graffiti History 1980-1999" is a comprehensive documentation of the emergence of the Hamburg graffiti scene. On 560 pages, the pictorial-textual volume captures in detail how the graffiti scene slowly took shape in the Hanseatic city from the beginning of the 1980s. Over 1300 photographs show graffiti pioneers and their works. The texts provide an opportunity for contemporary witnesses to speak and shed light on the social and cultural circumstances that contributed to the emergence of the subculture in Hamburg. Most of the images – most of them previously unpublished – are amateur footage from the scene's private archives, including many photographs documenting the artists' own work. However, the book is not limited to a demonstration of graffiti artists and their works. In his text contributions, he explores the question of how and in what social context graffiti in Hamburg originated. ".
